What is a snap cap?

A snap cap, also known as a dummy round or inert round, is a device used in firearms to safely simulate the firing of a live round. It is typically made of plastic or metal and is designed to fit snugly into the chamber of a gun. The snap cap contains no primer, gunpowder, or projectile, so when the gun is fired with a snap cap in place, the firing pin strikes the snap cap instead of a live round.

Snap caps are commonly used for dry firing practice, as they help protect the firing pin from damage and prevent the gun from being dry fired excessively. They are also used for testing the functionality of a firearm, practicing loading and unloading drills, and checking the feeding and ejection mechanisms.

Snap caps are available in a variety of calibers to match the specific firearm being used. They are a useful tool for gun owners to safely practice and maintain their guns without the risk of unintentional discharge.
